Some things are built to be checked again

The pull is a design feature, not a flaw in you.

There is a category of thing that is designed to be looked at repeatedly rather than used once and finished. Nothing in it ever arrives at a state of completion. There is always the possibility that something has changed since the last look, and that possibility is precisely what does the work. You are not returning because you enjoyed the last visit. You are returning because the question of whether there is anything new is left permanently open.

This matters because it reframes the experience. When you notice yourself checking something for the ninth time in an hour, the natural interpretation is that you lack discipline. A more accurate interpretation is that you are interacting with something built by capable people whose explicit aim was to produce exactly that behaviour, and it is working as intended. That is not an excuse. It is just a better description, and better descriptions lead to better decisions.

The useful move that follows is structural rather than moral. If the pull comes from an open question, then closing the question is what helps: deciding in advance when you will look, so that in between there is nothing to resolve. This is far easier than trying to want it less, because wanting it less was never really on offer.
